Sitting by the fire with a drink in my hand.
The sound of the burning wood turns to music in my head.
Shadow in the night
After a very very long break I have decided to revive my blog.
As before, once a week I will upload here one of my many pics for you to critique or in other words “kill”. You don’t have to be a photographer for that just a person with an opinion and a desire to share it.
The more you write the more I (and others) learn so feel free to express yourself.
And now, here is my latest picture for you to “kill”:

Winter is almost here and the tea is back to warm up our days and evenings.
I love a god cup of tea or coffee (even better) while sitting next to a big window watching the winter outside. That’s why I like this picture. It was taken exactly 2 years ago in a tea/coffee house in Detroit while outside was raining.
The picture was a spur of the moment thing with no planning (that’s why the stain is there 😦 ) but I still like it. I would prefer however, to know what could be done to improve this image if I was to take it again – this time putting some thought into it before (and having a better understanding of light and photography)
I have been interested in photography for the past 7 years or so and I have been actively taking pictures for the last 4 or 5. I am shooting with digital cameras and I do think I have a good eye for making interesting pictures but I never really took any photography lessons, untill now.
All I can say after this morning is: What a difference 2 lessons can have! Even if my previous pictures were good now I know I could have made them even better. Like I wrote in my previous post, the photography course I’m taking is mostly about light.
Understanding the way a camera uses light when taking a picture is what will make the difference between a good picture and a great one (if the composition is the same obviously).
This video explains camera metering and how it affects the image and is very similar to what we did this morning (our instructor was somehat livelier that the comentator in this video 🙂 ).
I have added here 2 pictures, one taken today and one taken last year, both in the same place. the setting is slightly different and I actually prefer the first (older) image to the new one but it is not a good picture. Today I know what I did wrong and how to fix it. This is a great example for the importance of understanding ligh and the way your camera uses it:
Ok. it’s not really mine – I am only one student out of 15 but I am happy to say that I started a photography course 2 weeks ago and I think it’s just the boost I needed to bring this blog back to life again.
The course’s main theme is light. The differences between contrast light and soft light and the importance of light and color in photography. Tomorrow we are going to start shooting just before dawn, around 05:00 AM! when the light is supposed to be perfect.
I really hope I will come back with some nice pics but I still need the feedback and advice other photographers and photography lovers can give me, so I will keep on adding pictures here and hope that someday this photoblog will grow into a nice comunity of photography and art lovers.
In the mean time, I will go prepare my camera and tomorrow I will add a few words about light, color and a new picture for you to kill.
For now you can enjoy one of my animal pics (feel free to kill it…)
